In 1987, on my way to Western Tibet, I traveled through western Xinjiang. The photographs above offer insights into the Karakoram Highway in Xinjiang, the Uyghur cities of Kashgar and Kargilik, and the Xinjiang-Tibet road, with a focus on the people and their culture.
